Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has signed a two-year contract extension with the Serie A club, effectively shutting the door on a potential return to the Italy national team.
The 67-year-old coach had been linked with the vacant Italy role after Gennaro Gattuso stepped down last week, following Italy’s failure to qualify for a third consecutive men’s World Cup. Spalletti originally took charge of Juventus on a short-term deal in October, replacing the dismissed Igor Tudor.
“Since Luciano joined our great Juventus family, he has had an immediate and very positive impact on our players, the whole club and the entire Bianconeri community,” Juventus CEO Damien Comolli said in a statement. “It was immediately clear to everyone that Luciano was the right person to lead the team on a path of growth.”
Spalletti, who previously managed Roma and Inter Milan, guided Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years in 2023 before leaving that summer to become Italy manager. His stint with the national team ended after a last-16 exit at Euro 2024, and he was dismissed in June 2025 following a 3-0 World Cup qualifier defeat to Norway. In March last year, he claimed that Napoli would be the last Italian club he would ever coach.
Juventus currently sit fifth in the Serie A standings with 57 points, one point adrift of the Champions League qualification spots with seven games remaining.
