Gujarat Titans Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki has heaped praise on Jason Holder after the West Indies all-rounder was named Player of the Match in their recent win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Solanki highlighted Holder’s experience, physical attributes, and technical skills as key factors in his standout performance.
Holder delivered an impressive all-round display, taking 2/29 with the ball, claiming three catches, and scoring 12 runs with the bat. Solanki noted that Holder’s ability to contribute in all facets of the game was exactly why the Titans pursued him at the auction.
“When we were pursuing Jason at the auction, it was with the mind to him being able to fulfil both roles – the bat and the ball. So he does offer us exactly that,” Solanki said. “His numbers over the last calendar year, and perhaps a bit longer, at positions five and six have been outstanding. He has all the ability needed – physically strong, great reach, and leverage with the bat. All the technicalities are covered.”
So far for the Titans, Holder has scored 35 runs in two innings at a strike rate of 175.00, taken three wickets at an average of 28.66, and contributed significantly in the field.
“He has proven across international and franchise cricket how measured he is, and he is only getting better. He understands his game, which comes with experience. Any player who has played as long as he has, led international teams, and been part of different squads, knows what to do in any given situation. Jason is certainly doing that,” Solanki added.
Solanki was also pleased with the team’s Powerplay performance and their ability to restrict a powerful RCB batting lineup. He specifically praised spinner Rashid Khan, who bowled a sensational spell of 2/19, taking his tournament tally to 10 wickets in nine matches at an average of 27.40.
“This speaks volumes about character and resilience, especially when RCB came out aggressively. The guys held their nerve, took wickets, and put the opposition under pressure. Rashid was superb, and it’s great to see him being the Rashid Khan we all know and love,” Solanki said.
While acknowledging the chase was not perfect, Solanki expressed confidence in the team’s decision-making and aggression in the Powerplay. “Was it the perfect game? No, but you rarely do. We will take a lot of confidence from the win,” he concluded.
