Zenit center Luka Šamanić admitted his error in the closing moments after his team lost to UNICS in the first game of the VTB United League semifinal series (104:107 in overtime). He acknowledged that Kazan guard Dmitry Kulagin’s difficult game-winning shot came as a result of his own defensive mistake.
“They outplayed us down the stretch. Kulagin’s shot — I’d say that was my fault. We had a different plan for that possession, but I switched too late, and he made a very tough shot. Credit to him. That’s it. We lost and we have to put this game behind us.
We have about 36 hours, maybe a little more. I don’t think we should dwell on it too long. We’ll review the game with the coaches, learn from it, and move forward. It was a good game, but we lost. So it doesn’t matter much,” Šamanić said, as quoted on the official website of the St. Petersburg club.
The next game of the series will take place on May 13 in Kazan.
